Innovation Park

Vision

Innovation Park is a place where business and industry meets academic research to launch intellectual property for the new century.

As a “third generation” research park, Innovation Park will not only offer technology transfer and business incubation services, but incorporate the academic and research enterprise of the university directly into the development of a private sector park. This powerful combination of industry, academia and nonprofit research organizations working in true partnership at the same location will both attract companies to the region and leverage the intellectual property from the academic research to spinout new companies.

Children’s Hospital and Health System has partnered with University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for many years to advance nursing practice and research. The university’s Innovation Park research center near the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center could be a wonderful catalyst for collaboration and rapid development of biomedical technologies and a terrific investment in the metro Milwaukee community.

The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) strongly supports the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s plans to develop Innovation Park on the Milwaukee County Grounds in Wauwatosa. The development of Innovation Park adjacent to the Medical College's campus will further solidify a growing collaboration between MCW and UWM in bioengineering and medical imaging that was established through a partnership in the federally-funded Clinical and Translational Science Institute of Southeastern Wisconsin. The planned project will galvanize existing collaborations, accelerate biomedical discovery, enhance extramural funding to both institutions, and lead to economic growth of the Wauwatosa region.

What does Innovation Park mean to the rest of Wisconsin? Milwaukee is the state’s largest city and UW-Milwaukee is Wisconsin’s second-largest campus. A healthy economy in Milwaukee is vital to all of Wisconsin, for reasons ranging from tax generation to job creation to attracting young professionals who can help reverse Wisconsin’s ‘brain drain.’ In time, Innovation Park will become a symbol of the research-to-jobs growth of Milwaukee.

UWM's presence will provide an opportunity for institutions at the Regional Medical Center to gain direct access to basic science and applied engineering that will foster unprecedented growth in their research portfolios.
